Building renovations got underway at the Harlem Library in 2000 when the City of Harlem held groundbreaking ceremonies at the Library on October 16.

2km Architects, located in Augusta, was selected for the renovation design.   Harlem's renovations include an addition of 700 square feet, done in the style of the existing 100-year-old building, as well as interior refurbishing. Renovations will take place in two stages:  Phase One includes the addition, which will be used for programs and meetings, and adding handicapped restrooms. Phase Two will begin next year and will include recarpeting and updates for the existing building.

Funding for the project began with the Creech bequest and was supplemented by state grants and many generous local and corporate donations.
